• INA lunchbreak
  • Supply Chain Act
12. January 2024

In our next INA Lunchbreak we will deal with the topic of „Sustainability along the supply chains of spices and other plant-based raw materials"

The supply chains for spices and other plant-based products are diverse, and so are their challenges.

Due to often low production volumes, long supply chains and different human rights as well as environmental risks in cultivation and processing depending on the raw material and context, it is very difficult for procuring companies to fulfil their due diligence obligations. In addition, although the spice sector is covered by the German Supply Chain Due Diligence Act (LkSG), it is not covered by the EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR). At the same time, plant-based products are often an important source of income for local communities and thus provide an incentive for the conservation of natural habitats.

In our 24th Lunchbreak, we will shed light on the relevance and implementation of corporate due diligence in the spice sector with two input providers from science and practice:

Dr. Julius Wenzig, research associate at the Center for Sustainable Corporate Leadership at Witten/Herdecke University, will present his research findings on responsible conduct in the spice sector. Andreas Einig, team leader procurement at Mast-Jägermeister SE, will answer questions on the relevance and implementation of due diligence obligations at Jägermeister, especially in light of their project with the Union for Ethical Biotrade (UEBT), which was funded by the INA Due Diligence Fund (DDF). The subsequent discussion offers all participants the opportunity to exchange ideas.

The one-hour online meeting takes place on the first Friday of the month.

The date is Friday, 12.01.2024, from 12.00–1.00pm CET.

The event will be held in English.
