High Level Meeting on Living Income and Living Wage

During the High Level Meeting on Living Income and Living Wage on 21 June 2022, German Development Minister Svenja Schulze and Dutch Minister for Foreign Trade and Development Liesje Schreinemacher exchanged views on a concept for achieving living incomes and wages. They emphasised the importance of EU regulation of corporate due diligence for human rights and the environment. They discussed with representatives from producer countries, the private sector and civil society how to achieve these goals. The two ministers underlined the importance of the German and Dutch Declaration on the Promotion of Living Wages. This Declaration is a clear signal to companies to comply with their due diligence obligations and to take action beyond that. During the event, the Belgian Foreign Ministry also expressed its willingness to sign the declaration.
