Despite considerable efforts by the international community, the global forest area has been drastically reduced in the recent years and despite many corporate commitments, most companies will not achieve their goal of deforestation-free supply chains by 2020.

To address this challenge, Franziska Rau and Gerhard Langenberger from the team working on deforestation-free supply chains   of the GIZ Programme Sustainable Agricultural Supply Chains and Standards have written the article "Reaching zero deforestation in supply chains - why we need a jurisdictional approach".

Illustrated by a pilot project in Indonesia, they show why a holistic approach and partnerships between various stakeholder groups are necessary to reduce deforestation-free in agricultural supply chains.

What the so-called jurisdictional approach is about and how High Value Conservation Value Areas are exactly defined can be found here in the article.
