Next open meeting of the Action Alliance for Sustainable Bananas
"The sustainable banana and climate change – how does this go together?" is the theme of this year's open meeting of the Action Alliance for Sustainable Bananas (ABNB). The virtual meeting will take place on 29 September 2020 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
The Action Alliance for Sustainable Bananas is committed to sustainable production conditions for people and the environment. Together with all stakeholders, it aims to work on sector-wide changes to improve the situation in the banana sector.
This year the ABNB is focusing in particular on the impact of climate change on banana production. In this context, the results of a new study by HFFA Research (Dr. Steffen Noleppa) and the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research (Dr. Christoph Gornott) will be presented, which will show that there is a strong need for action to counter the effects of climate change in the producing countries. The ABNB is taking up this challenge and wants to discuss a roadmap on how to make banana production more ecologically sustainable and adapted to climate change. At the meeting, the aim is to jointly lay the foundations for further action to deal with the effects of climate change.
