Coffee is no longer a luxury product but the most traded agricultural commodity in the world.

In 2017, Germans drank 162 liters of coffee per capita, more coffee than water (to be read in the study "Auf ein Tässchen").

But let us not forget that our coffee has already come a long way as cultivation and further processing are very complex. The coffee-producing families receive only a small part of the added value.

Südwind-Institute has analysed German coffee companies for their sustainability. All the companies investigated consider compliance with human rights and labour standards to be guaranteed. However, often the only measure is the purchase of certified coffee. This contrasts with the still widespread poverty of coffee-growing families.
