• Online Nur Kännchen
16. June 2021

Both civil society organizations and federal ministers are campaigning for the abolishment of the coffee tax on sustainably produced and fairly traded coffee. This should increase its sales and improve sustainability in consumption and cultivation in international agricultural supply chains. The abolishment of the coffee tax can lead to shifts from conventional to sustainable & fair-trade coffee, especially in the low-priced coffee segment. Against the background of this demand, concepts for the implementation of such a tax exemption were developed. Within the framework of a study, various economic, ecological and fiscal effects of such a reform were examined.

The upcoming event "Online nur Kännchen – Coffee tax exemption? Effects & potentials" will provide an overview of the efforts made so far by civil society and the public sector regarding a coffee tax exemption for sustainably produced and fairly traded coffee. In addition, based on the study, the feasibility as well as potentials and impacts in both producer and consumer countries will be presented and discussed.
